LIPS SURGERY

LIP REDUCTION (CHEILOPLASTY)

There is a state of art in the technique to reshape an oversized lip, as the size, shape and contour require both technical and artistic surgery to give an enhancing natural look result.

The aims of lip reduction surgery are to achieve a harmonious with the upper and lower lips and keep the balance with the nose and entire face, as well as to attain an aesthetic relationship of lips’ contour and volume. The lip reduction can be performed on one lip or both as desired.

The surgery removes excess lip tissue to reduce the size of your lips and redefine your lips appearance and volume. The results are permanent, and this surgery can be combined with other facial rejuvenation procedures such as rhinoplasty and double eyelid surgery.

The lip reduction procedure is performed under local anaesthesia with regional anaesthesia, sometimes with oral sedation. The facial plastic surgeon creates an attractive curve incision on the inside of the lips, then removes the strip of lip tissue along the ‘dry-wet line’, then direct closure with suture material and a change in the posture of the lip. The incision is invisible after surgery. The lip reduction procedure can be performed on the upper and lower lips to improve the patient’s appearance and balance.

LIP REDUCTION RISKS

The side effect of lip reduction includes pain, swelling, bruises at the treatment area. Temporary numbness or tingling of the lips is common, but this usually subsides within the first few weeks.

The rare complications are infection, poor healing, scarring, or asymmetry. The well experienced and qualified surgeon can greatly reduce the chance for any complication.

LIP REDUCTION RECOVERY

The days following the surgery, patients should take pain medication and put an ice bag on the lips to decrease pain and swelling. Oral hygiene is important to reduce infection risk, rinsing with an antiseptic mouthwash several times a day can minimise the risk. Patients should keep their head elevated for the first few days, and avoid any vigorous activities. A soft diet is often required for several days, while the lips begin to heal. Avoiding highly acidic foods that can irritate the incisions.

After the surgery, the lips initially appear larger because of swelling and this resolves over a period of weeks.

After day seventh, the light massage of lip with lip balm can provide the best result and prevent fibrosis.

The results are seen at about one to over three months after surgery.

CHEEK DIMPLE CREATION

A surgically create permanent dimples for brightening a smile and add character

Cheek dimples are the small natural indentation. Dimples are commonly considered an attractive facial feature, which enhance an attractive smile. A natural dimple is formed when there is a small defect in the cheek musculature. The skin overlying this small defect is stuck down and creates a dimple in the skin with facial smiling.

The procedure for creating cheek dimples is simple and it can be performed with other procedure such as cheek reduction surgery. It is performed under local anaesthesia and light sedation. During surgery, the skin and the cheek muscle are connected so that when the muscle contracts, it pulls the skin inwards to form a dimple, as the same way as a natural dimple. The facial plastic surgeon removes a circular core composed of mucosa, sub mucosal fat, and cheek muscle from inside oral cavity, leaving the skin intact. Then the incision is closed by an absorbable suture, which result in dimpling of the skin even without smiling. By a few months, the internal healing will connect the muscle to the skin, creating a dimple when one smiles.
